What Church Didn’t Teach Me About My Body
Growing up in the Church, I learned a lot about purity.
I learned to dress modestly.
To guard my heart.
To “wait.”
To be a helper.
To be quiet, humble, faithful.
But no one ever pulled me aside and said:
“Your body was designed by God with purpose, intelligence, and power.”
No one told me my hormones weren’t the enemy.
No one taught me to listen to my cycle as a messenger, not a curse.
No one mentioned that postpartum wasn’t just about sleepless nights and cute baby photos—it could also be a season of identity crisis, anxiety, and holy unraveling.
And so, like many women, I went into adulthood knowing how to obey God…
…but not how to care for the body He gave me.
The Disconnect
For too long, the conversation around women’s bodies in Christian spaces has centered on control, not understanding.
- Don’t tempt.
- Don’t desire.
- Don’t talk about it.
- Just “pray it away.”
And yes prayer is powerful. But it’s not a replacement for education, support, and health literacy.
We can’t steward what we don’t understand.
What I Wish I Knew
I wish someone had told me:
-
Your period is not punishment, it’s communication.
God didn’t mess up when He designed your cycle. Your mood swings, cramps, and cravings might be signals of deeper imbalances, not something to medicate away without understanding. -
Postpartum doesn’t end at six weeks.
Spiritually and physically, new motherhood is sacred ground and it can also be incredibly lonely. You’re not broken for struggling. -
Your body is a temple, but that doesn’t mean it’s always pristine.
It means it’s holy, not flawless. It means it deserves respect, rest, nourishment, and compassion. -
Hormones are not the villain.
They are part of God’s design. When supported well, they help you thrive—not just survive.
Let’s Reclaim the Conversation
At Pink Stork, we believe that faith and science don’t compete, they collaborate. We believe God gave us wisdom, community, and resources to care for our bodies.
We don’t idolize health.
We don’t chase perfection.
We honor the temple.
Because when women understand their bodies, they stop battling them.
When they stop battling them, they can finally heal.
And when they heal, they rise into the fullness of who God created them to be.
You Are Not Alone
If you’ve ever felt confused, dismissed, or ashamed of what you’re going through… you’re not alone.
You are not crazy.
You are not too much.
And you are not a spiritual failure for needing supplements, rest, therapy or help.
Let’s talk about the hard things.
Let’s challenge the silence.
Let’s create a space where faith meets facts, where prayer meets protocol, and where women are empowered to understand the divine design of their bodies.
Your body is not a problem to solve.
It’s a masterpiece to steward.
