Father’s Day is such an important day in our house – because we get to celebrate my husband, the father to our 4 beautiful babies, Thomas. Dads are so important in a child’s life, but they’re also important to OUR lives, as their spouse. And I want to stress that this is about any dad figure in a kid’s life! The men who raise our babies with us are so valuable!
As moms, I know we have a lot of maternal instincts that sometimes dads don’t have initially – but we have to let dads do their own thing! Let them find their role, let them mismatch the outfit, let them play the way they want to play, feed the kids what they want for lunch… they’ll figure it out. I know sometimes dads don't always feel confident in what they do with kids (especially newborns) – and a lot of the time, moms do things ourselves since it’s “easier,” but speak words of affirmation to him, let him know he's doing a good job! It’s so important that the men in our children’s lives feel love and support: to be the dad he wants to be, and the dad our kids need.
Thank you, DADS! For all you do. Matthew McConaughey said it best: “The best thing you could probably do as a father is make sure they see how you love their mother.” So, thank you dads - for loving us, for supporting us, for helping us be the best moms we can be, too!
As parents, we all make sacrifices, and I wanted to share a video of my husband Thomas meeting our oldest daughter, America. She was born while he was deployed to Afghanistan – and we were lucky enough to have their meeting videotaped. So today, on Father’s Day, I want to share that video and take the time to say THANK YOU to the father of our 4 beautiful kids, for helping me be the best mom I can be, and for helping me to be the woman I am today. I couldn’t do what I love without him!
Xoxo!
