Love is a powerful feeling that comes in many forms; romantic, familial, friendship, and, most importantly, a love of strangers. John 13:34-35 TLB says, “And so I am giving a new commandment to you now—love each other just as much as I love you. Your strong love for each other will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” When Jesus commanded that his disciples love all they come into contact with, just before the betrayal of Judas, He still believed that everyone deserves love and compassion. Instead of tearing others down due to mistakes or negative actions we must reflect within ourselves and wonder, “what has been upsetting them,” so we can better understand their actions and be compassionate to them. Most people when in a negative mood will say or do things they would not otherwise, and many feel regret after their negative mood has passed, so instead of responding back with negativity we should instead shine the light of love within us onto them to encourage their own healing process.

Encouraging moment of the day: Reflect on a time when a stranger has acted negatively to you, did you respond negatively back? Write out a prayer you can say whenever a negative interaction happens, pray for their personal healing and that God may show them His light and happiness that pours over from Him.

The only true love in our lives is the love given to us by God himself. He is the only one who can see you and truly look deep into your heart. Because of this gracious gift God allows us to open our hearts to others. We seek to honor Him through our compassion and longing for others. The Bible shows us different ways to live life with a servant heart. Lifting up the broken, having patience, forgiving others, keeping promises, and being generous are all ways we can love others faithfully through the teachings of Jesus. It is important to remember that we are all beloved children of Christ and deserve to emulate his light through our love.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs."

Encouraging moment of the day: Reflect on a time that God has shown you pure and unfailing love.
