Sweet Dreams Are Made of This...

Life can become so much harder when you are lacking sleep! My goals start to look like tasks that I have to drag myself to do. My enthusiastic personality becomes passive and apathetic. But trust me, I know it can be hard to find peace at night when there are a million things running through your head that you need to accomplish, but getting plenty of sleep allows me to show up everyday energized and ready to accomplish my goals enthusiastically.

Sleep plays a vital, and often neglected, role in your physical and mental health. Sleep enables and repairs the body to be able to take on another day. Getting enough rest can prevent weight gain, heart disease, and illness duration. Lack of sleep can also contribute to depression, impaired brain function, and lack of social skills. The typical adult needs about seven to nine hours of sleep a night.

I used to think that struggling to fall and stay asleep was a part of my life that I was just going to have to get used to until I found remedies that made going to sleep at night a much more peaceful experience. I have always found hope within the power of all natural and organic products when it comes to my health. Melatonin is a hormone created in the body that plays a role in the natural sleep-wake cycle.

Melatonin can also be taken in the form of a supplement (or a gummy) to help with insomnia and difficulty falling asleep. Melatonin works with your body’s internal clock to help you know the best times to sleep, wake, and eat. Taking a melatonin supplement 30 minutes before bedtime allows me to relax and improve my sleep quality.

I also had to change my mindset when it came to sleep. I used to think of it as time that was being wasted that could be used doing more productive things but I was wrong! Sleep is essential to our self care and so we can show up as the best version of ourselves every single day. I use the 30 minutes before falling asleep every night as a time to find peace and unwind. Anything from wearing comfy silk pajamas to drinking a hot cup of sleep tea before bed makes me feel relaxed and like I am really prioritizing my sleep time.
